IndigIdeas Pitch Night

Event Date:
Thursday, 19 October 2017 -
6:30pm to 10:30pm

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are invited to pitch their business ideas at a fun-filled Pitch Night at the First 1000 Days Australia Summit in Brisbane... an Application Form can be found below.

And all those keen to hear about their fantastic business ideas are invited to come along on the night... just click to the right to purchase a ticket.

Where: Riverside Reception Centre, 50 Oxlade Drive, New Farm 4005

Led by Dean Foley, founder of Barayamal (BlackSwan) Australia’s Indigenous business accelerator program, the Pitch Night will attract a significant prize pool and offer a unique night of networking opportunities. ‘Pitchers’ will be vying for prizes, awards and opportunities in front of a panel of Indigipreneurs from across Australia.

To help pitchers work up their ideas, Dean Foley will also be running pitch development workshops on site at Riverside Receptions during the Summit on Wednesday 18 October and Thursday 19 October.

To be in the running for prizes, you need to present business ideas that support:

  • Young parents
  • The transition to parenthood
  • Children’s best start for a good future

And your ideas need to relate to the period of time from a child’s pre-conception to the age of two.

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Have a start-up business or business idea aimed at supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.

Pitchers can also present in pairs, however the lead applicant must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

The Pitch Night will use the 20 x 20 style Pecha Kucha format, a Japanese idea (ペチャクチャ, IPA: [petɕa ku͍̥tɕa], chit-chat), in which presentations are made by showing 20 slides for 20 seconds each (6 minutes and 40 seconds in total). Pecha Kucha keeps presentations concise and fast-paced, with plenty of time for multiple speakers.

NB: We are not accepting expressions of interest from already established business owners. However, if you have an established business and would like to be involved, we will have space for stalls and other businesses at the event. So please email us at: iheu-admin@unimelb.edu.au

This event is part of the First 1000 Days Australia Summit being held in Brisbane during Indigenous Business Month. In support of the First 1000 Days Australia Entrepreneurial Awards Program, this event showcases enterprising ideas, interests, businesses and entrepreneurial opportunities that have a focus on the period from pre-conception to the age of two, and that engage with and benefit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
